Inspired by the possibility of the country electing its first female president, this work addresses female stereotypes and challenges preconceptions. The piece opens a dialogue on female power in society and women's roles in creating and preserving humanity. The laundry lint refers to the traditional gender role of mother/housekeeper.  The family is emerging from a womb-like shape, partially obscured by pantyhose, exposing two truths; the truth of where we all come from and alluding to the unrealistic standards that women are expected to uphold.  Pantyhose are designed to hide imperfections yet they also hide our humanity. Additionally, by entrapping the family in the hose and pulling them down by a nail, the piece hints at oppression. The dental floss used to tie the pantyhose to the nail refers to the daily habits and actions that become inherent behaviors and attitudes.
