I create art to immerse myself in the world.
My subjects are highly personal.
Relationships, emotions and life experiences inspire my work.
The physical and mental over-stimulation of contemporary life drives me to create work that highlights the quiet solitude and subtle intimacy that underpins love, compassion and empathy. I enjoy the challenge of taking complex emotions and ideas and translating them into basic visual forms. I use a simplistic yet evocative style to contemplate vulnerability and the basic goodness and beauty of human nature.
My body of work includes, drawings, sculptures, photography, paintings, mixed media work, illustration, ceramics, prints and site specific installations.
Informed by personal experience, my work is influenced by my position and responsibilities in society as a woman, mother and community member. Themes that I explore include relationships, family, birth, home, gender roles, femininity, motherhood and healing.
I am currently working on three bodies of work. String's Attached is a collection of drawings and sculptures that comment on relationships and love. The Watercolor Series is a variation on Strings Attached where I am experimenting with the flow of the medium and how it corresponds with the flow of energy between people. Finally Boxes (working title) is a collection of interactive boxes intended as an invitation to a conversation about femininity and the shared female experience.
